History of KChWE Church Alliance in Poland

The origins of the Christian Evangelical Faith Church (KChWE) in Poland reach as far back as the early 20 of the XX century, when migrants started coming back from America and Germany beginning a missionary work. Those people were mostly linked to the Pentecostal movement and desired to introduce some freshness into the stiff structures of the traditional Christianity. At first Pentecostal churches in east and west Poland worked independently of each other, however, in May 1929 it was decided to establish the Christian Evangelical Faith Church. Shortly before the Second World War the Church Alliance included about 500 churches and communities, which consisted of over 20 thousand members and published three periodicals: in Polish, Russian and Ukrainian.
The period from 1950 to 1953 was for the Church the time of chaos, as the spiritual leaders, just like in case of other evangelical communities in our country, got imprisoned. The denomination policy of the Polish communistic government influenced the creation of the United Evangelical Church Alliance (Zjednoczony Kościół Ewangeliczny), which was joined by KChWE as well in 1988. Entered in the Register of Associations and Religious Organizations on 1st Feb 1988, in 1990 was by the decision of the Head of Ministers’ Council transferred to the Register of Churches and other Religious Societies in the section A, pos. 25. Thus, the Church Alliance gained prestige, as it started to be officially treated as a church not simply a religious organization.
Currently KChWE Church Alliance includes 25 churches and consists of above 4 thousand members. It conducts a wide variety of a missionary work as well as charity and publishing, co-operating with the sister publishing houses and churches – foundations all over the country.
